Ingredient Notes

  • Ravioli – Look for fresh ravioli or frozen cheese ravioli. I used cheese ravioli, but you can use any flavor you like.
  • Pasta Sauce – While you can make homemade marinara sauce, storebought marinara offers a flavorful shortcut.
  • Spinach – Layering this with baby spinach adds more flavor and healthy vegetables.
  • Cheese – Use a combination of parmesan cheese and shredded mozzarella cheese.
  • Parsley – Garnish with freshly chopped parsley.

Pro Tips

  • Use fresh or frozen ravioli. The ravioli does not need to be thawed or boiled.
  • If using frozen ravioli, you may need to add a few minutes to the baking time.
  • I used cheese ravioli, but you can use any ravioli flavor
  • The ravioli absorbs quite a bit of sauce while cooking, so even if it seems like too much sauce, it will come out perfectly in the end.
  • This recipe makes a large casserole. You can easily divide the ingredients between two smaller casserole dishes and freeze one for later.
  • No baby spinach? Use regular spinach instead.
  • Freshly grated cheese melts better than pre-shredded cheese.

Delicious Variations

  • Swap the Ravioli – I make this with cheese ravioli, but you can use any flavor you love.
  • Add Meat – If you have meat lovers in your family, you can add cooked ground Italian sausage or ground beef. Or, use meat filled ravioli.
  • Swap the Sauce – Use alfredo sauce instead of marinara sauce.
  • Add Seasoning – Amp up the flavor with the addition of this easy homemade Italian Seasoning.
  • Make It Spicy – Add crushed red pepper or spicy arrabbiata sauce.
  • Replace The Ravioli – Replace the ravioli with tortellini, gnocchi, or any cooked pasta.

Prep And Storage

  • Prep Ahead – Assemble the casserole the night before and bake when ready. You can also freeze for up to 3 months.
  • Store – Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 4-5 days. Reheat in the microwave.
  • Freeze – Cover and freeze this baked ravioli casserole before you bake it. When you’re ready to cook it, simply pop the frozen dish in the oven and add a little extra time to the cooking time.
