WHAT IS KIELBASA?

Kielbasa is simply another term for Polish sausage. It is characterized as a long thick sausage.

Traditional kielbasa is made from pork, but in the United States, you have a combination of turkey, pork, or beef, or you can buy one of each. Beef, turkey, and pork kielbasa are also available. It is one of the most iconic foods Americans routinely eat of Polish roots. In the United States, it is usually manufactured in a U-shaped form. You can easily find it in the same aisle near the hot dogs and bacon in any American grocery store.

Kielbasa is different than sausage as it has a different texture. Typically it is seasoned with garlic and pepper, but this would depend on the brand you purchase. Most kielbasa in grocery stores is sold smoked or precooked.

Types of Kielbasa: Now, kielbasa is very flavorful, but, is high in sodium. If you are watching your salt intake, this is something to keep in mind. With that said, there are many options to chose from: Beef, chicken, turkey, Lite version, Andouille, cheddar and many more. Our favorite is turkey, but, these instructions will work for any of these. If you desire to purchase regular pre-cooked smoked sausage, that will also work.
